Title favorite Ateneo aims for 2nd win in UAAP women's volleyball

Pre-season favorite Ateneo clashes with University of the East as action resumes in the 74th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City on Wednesday.   The Lady Eagles take on the Lady Warriors in the first women’s match at 2 p.m. followed by the 3:30 contest between Adamson and University of the Philippines.   Prized recruit Alyssa Valdez is expected to finally finish the game this time after cramps forced her to sit out the final two sets of their victory against University of Santo Tomas last Saturday.   The Lady Eagles blanked the Tigresses, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18, with Valdez scoring 13 points in her debut.   “The girls were impressive in their first game. I hope they would keep it that way the rest of the tournament,” said Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb.   Jem Ferrer, Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho and Alysse Nakachi are also expected to deliver for the Lady Eagles, who will be tested on Saturday when they face defending champion and bitter rival La Salle.   In the men’s tournament, UE takes on La Salle at 9 a.m. while National U collides with UP at 10:30 a.m. — JVP, GMA News
