Diaz captures bronze in World jr weightlifting tilt


Hidilyn Diaz captured a bronze medal in the snatch event of the 2011 World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Penang, Malaysia. Diaz, a 2008 Beijing Olympian, lifted 93 kilograms in the snatch to finish third in the women's 58 kilogram division. She actually ended up tied with Thailand's Rattikan Gulnoi and Jo Pok Hyang of North Korea. Rattikan and Diaz, however, were awarded the silver and bronze medals because of a lighter body weight. China's Deng Wei won the gold medal in the snatch with a lift of 110kgs. She later added the mints in the clean-and-jerk and total events. Diaz finished fifth in the clean and jerk with a lift of 120 kgs. behind Deng (133), Jo (122), Gulnoi (121) and Kuo Hsing Chun of Chinese Taipei (120). The 20-year-old Zamboanga native finished fourth in the total event with 213 behind Deng (243), Jo (215) and Gulnoi (214). Meanwhile, Nestor Colonia lifted a total of 252 to finish seventh behind Li Fabin of China (275), Askari Majid of Iran (273), Thanh Kim Tuan of Vietnam (273), Om Yun Chol of North Korea (271), Sumar Riyanto of Indonesia (257) and Lu Yuntao of China (255) in the men's 56-kg division.
