Phinma Jr Tennis: Capadocia, 3 other Pinays advance


Marian Jade Capadocia became the fourth Filipina to advance into the second round of the Phinma International Junior Tennis Championship at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Capadocia whipped Mariel Zire Ante of the United States, 6-3, 6-3, to join compatriots Anna Clarice Patrimonio, Tamitha Nguyen and Marinel Rudas in the second round, which will be played Thursday. Patrimonio, daughter of four-time Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Alvin Patrimonio and the tournament’s top seed, had a bye in the first round and will see action in the second round against Desirae Krawczyk at center court. Krawczyk defeated Dina Karina of India, 6-1, 6-0, in the opening round of this event presented by Phinma Properties in cooperation with the ITF Grand Slam Development Fund. Nguyen, seeded seventh in the tournament, will meet Darya Chernetsova of Belarus. But Capadocia and Rudas face tougher tests in the second round against crack opponents. Capadocia will be up against second seed Siyu Qin of China while Rudas will go up against No.6 seed Sofia Dmitrieva of Russia. Chertnetsova is coming off a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jennifer Lu of the US. Natsumi Chimura of Japan beat Natalia Khaniejo of India, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Yong Joo Jung of South Korea ripped Kirsteen Rebuyas of the Philippines, 6-1, 6-1. And Genki Yoshida of Japan subdued Eric Roman de Romas of Australia, 6-2, 6-0. Players who are competing in the singles and doubles events will get additional ranking points from the sanctioning International Tennis Federation. The singles event champion will get an additional 40 ranking points while the runner-up will garner 30 points. The two semifinalists will receive 20 points apiece while the quarterfinalists will be given 15 points each. For the doubles champions, an additional 30 ranking points will be provided each, while the runners-up will be given 20 points each.
