John Riel Casimero makes quick work of Saul Sanchez in Japan

Former three-division champion John Riel Casimero made quick work of Saul Sanchez following a first-round stoppage in their ten-round bout on Sunday at Yokohama Budokan in Japan.

Casimero, who was a pound over the 122-pound super bantamweight limit, came out swinging and quickly dropped the former world title challenger barely 30 seconds into the fight. The Filipino slugger quickly followed up, dropping Sanchez again with a left hook.

Sanchez got up from the second knockdown but was shaky on his feet and was on the receiving end of Casimero's relentless barrage. Unable to punch back, the referee stepped in to stop the contest, earning Casimero a technical knockout win at the 2:41 mark of round one.

"My goal was to not let him make it to round two," Casimero said after the fight.

The win improved Casimero's professional boxing record to 34-4-1 with 23 knockouts.
