Canelo Alvarez drops Edgar Berlanga en route to unanimous decision nod

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez successfully defended his WBC and WBO world super middleweight titles following a dominant unanimous decision victory over Edgar Berlanga on Sunday (Philippine time).

Alvarez, 34, dictated the tempo right from the opening bell and dropped his previously unbeaten Puerto Rican foe with a clean left hook in round three. Berlanga managed to beat the count and survived the round.

It was all Alvarez from there as he unleashed punches to the head and body while Berlanga threw some of his own but was outgunned. All three judges saw the fight for Alvarez after twelve rounds of boxing, awarding the Mexican a unanimous decision nod.

The win improved Alvarez's professional boxing record to 62-2-2 with 39 knockouts while Berlanga tasted defeat for the first time as he fell to 22-1 with 17 knockouts. The scorecards were 117-110, 117-110, and 108-109.
