What reward will Aira Villegas get for claiming Olympic bronze medal?
Aira Villegas claimed the country's third medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics as she bagged a bronze on early Wednesday.
Villegas' Olympic campaign ended as she fell short against Turkish boxer Buse Naz Cakiroglu in the women's boxing 50kg semis. A semis slot already assured her of at least an Olympic bronze medal.
Villegas became the second female boxer from the Philippines to bring home a medal following Nesthy Petecio's silver medal finish in Tokyo three years ago.
This also followed Carlos Yulo's double gold medal in gymnastics in the ongoing Summer Games.
Because of this feat, Villegas is expected to receive a reward from the government, as mandated by Republic Act 10699.
She will receive P2,000,000 as a bronze medalist of an individual event.
For gold medalists in individual events, an incentive of P10,000,000 is expected while silver medalists get P5,000,000.
Her coach, meanwhile, will also receive an incentive equivalent to half of Villegas' reward.
The Philippine Airlines also awarded her 80,000 Mabuhay Miles annually for the next three years.
Petecio, who is also in the semis of the women's 57kg event, is also assured already of an Olympic medal.
