Marcos congratulates Aira Villegas for Olympic bronze medal: 'That was a knockout performance'

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday congratulated Filipino boxer Aira Villegas for winning a bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Congratulations, Aira!” Marcos said on Instagram. “That was a knockout performance in your Olympic debut! You made us all proud and are surely an inspiration to young Filipinas.” 

Villegas officially claimed a bronze medal after falling short against Turkish boxer Buse Naz Cakiroglu in the semifinals of the women's 50 kilogram boxing event on Wednesday.

This is the Philippines' third medal in the ongoing Games following gymnast Carlos Yulo's double gold medal in men's gymnastics. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
