Marcial, Paalam earn byes in Paris Olympics boxing
Filipino Olympian and boxers Eumir Marcial and Carlo Paalam earned byes for the first round of their respective events in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Marcial, who will compete in the men's 80kgs, will advance to the Round of 16 and will face Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan.
Khabibullaev is a bronze medalist in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The two will go against each other on July 31 (Philippine time).
Paalam, meanwhile, will commence his campaign in the Round of 16 of the men's 57kg event on the same date.
He will go against Ireland's Jude Gallagher, a gold medalist in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Nesthy Petecio, on the other hand, will fight India's Jaismine Lamboria in the Round of 32 of the women's 57kg on July 30.
Aira Villegas will open her campaign on July 29 against Morocco's Yasmine Mouttaki in the women's 50kg Round of 32, while Hergie Bacyadan will face China's Li Qian in the women's 75kg Round of 16 on July 31.
