Boxer Hergie Bacyadan qualifies for Paris Olympics
From just four in Tokyo, five Filipino boxers will now represent the Philippines in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics after Hergie Bacyadan punched her way to the Summer Games on Sunday.
Bacyadan eked out a unanimous decision win over Venezuela's Maryelis Yriza during their quarterfinals bout in the women's 75kg division at the 2nd Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament in Thailand.
Bacyadan became the 15th overall Filipino and fifth boxer from the Philippines to qualify for the Summer Games to join fellow pugs Nesthy Petecio, Eumir Marcial, Aira Villegas, and Carlo Paalam.
Bacyadan was nothing short of impressive in the final Paris Games qualifier, beating Spain's Dunia Martinez in the Round of 32 with a dominant unanimous decision win before a split decision victory against Hungary's Veronika Nakota in the Round of 16 saw her cruising to the top eight.
She then just needed one win to make it to the Olympics as four tickets are up for grabs in her division.
