Reymart Gaballo makes quick work of Thai foe to defend WBO title

Bantamweight contender Reymart Gaballo made quick work of Thai foe Phai Pharob to successfully defend his WBO oriental bantamweight title yesterday at Midas Hotel and Casino in Pasay City.

Gaballo, 27, needed to land just one left hook to the body to send the visiting foe crumbling in pain on the canvas. Unable to beat the count, the hard-hitting Filipino was declared the winner by knockout, just 32 seconds into the fight.

"I was able to do what we have been training for in the gym. I did not expect it to be that fast, I was just focused. I saw an opening and took it," Gaballo said after the fight.

The bout also marked Gaballo's second outing with Nonito Donaire, Sr. as his trainer, and his coach couldn't be more pleased with his performance.

"It was a good performance. We have been working on his accuracy and stance. We trained for that punch and he will be confident to use it in the next fight because now he knows he can get a knockout with it," said Donaire, Sr.

Ranked as the WBO no.1 bantamweight in the world, Gaballo improved his record to 26-1 with 21 knockouts while Pharob fell to 35-3 with 27 knockouts.
