Vincent Astrolabio relishes experience in Jerwin Ancajas' Survival Camp
One-time world title challenger and WBC bantamweight contender Vincent Astrolabio is taking in all the experience he can gain he as trains and spars at Jerwin Ancajas' Survival Camp in Cavite.
Just a month after sparring with Marlon Tapales in Baguio, the General Santos City native found himself sparring with Jerwin Ancajas, who is deep in training camp in preparation for his bout with WBA world bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue on February 24.
According to Astrolabio, it is the kind of experience he seeks and lives for as he awaits to challenge the winner between WBC world bantamweight champion Alexandro Santiago and Junto Nakatani.
"This is a good experience for me. When I came to Marlon Tapales, a southpaw, I gained experience," Astrolabio said in Filipino in an exclusive interview.
"I am the mandatory of [Alexandro] Santiago but he is fighting [Junto] Nakatani (southpaw) first. Whoever wins, I will be ready. Now I am here with champ Ancajas, who is also a southpaw."
Besides their one-on-one sparring sessions, Astrolabio also partakes in circuit sparring where Ancajas spars four different boxers in a single round by rotating them every thirty seconds.
"This is very important for me to spar here because one would not often get an opportunity to spar with world champions. I am thankful to Team Ancajas and Marlon Tapales for hiring me. It is a huge help for my upcoming fight," he said.
