Fast-rising prospect Carl Jammes Martin claimed the WBO global super bantamweight title following a sixth-round technical knockout over Chaiwat Buatkrathok last Monday at Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque.

The 24-year-old unbeaten prospect from Lagawe, Ifugao, came out jabbing and invested to the body in the early going. Buatkrathok, for his part, pressed the action throwing punches with bad intentions.

Looking to throw Martin off his game, the Thai veteran switched stances several times during the fight but the Filipino managed to keep his composure, stick to his jab, and make Buatkrathok pay for his openings.

The two fighters threw caution out the window and swung for the fences in Round 5 with Martin getting the better of the exchange. Tired and beaten up from the previous round, Martin sent Buatkrathok to the canvas in Round 6 courtesy of punches to the head and body.

A visibly hurt and gassed Buatkrathok managed to get back on his feet before the ten count but the referee prompted to halt the contest. The win improved Martin's perfect record to 23-0 with 18 knockouts while his foe dropped to 40-9 with 26 knockouts.

Mike Plania of Sanman Boxing, meanwhile, made a successful comeback with a 71-second demolition of Daniel Nicolas.

The 26-year-old super bantamweight is coming off a knockout loss against Elijah Pierce last August and is now back to his winning ways following the quick work of his fellow Filipino. The win improved his record to 29-3 with 16 knockouts.
