Naoya Inoue finishes Stephen Fulton to claim WBC and WBO world super bantamweight titles
Naoya Inoue is now a four-division world champion following an eight-round technical knockout over Stephen Fulton to claim the WBC and WBO world super bantamweight titles this Tuesday evening at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Inoue came out jabbing while Fulton tried to dictate the pace with his own jabs while feeling out his foe. Inoue got into the groove in the early going, throwing hard combinations with bad intentions.
Fulton, to his credit, weathered the storm but was often backed by Inoue's relentless assault. He pressed the action from round three onward but threw few punches and was getting timed by Inoue when he did.
Fulton landed a couple of clean right straights in round 5 in what was his best round yet of the fight. Inoue came back in round 6, stunning the American with a series of clean right hands.
In round 8, Inoue caught Fulton with a straight right then followed up with a left hook that dropped the latter. Fulton managed to beat the count, but Inoue went for the kill with a barrage of punches that prompted the referee to halt the contest.
