Fernando Martinez TKOs Jade Bornea to retain world title

IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez made a second successful defense of his title following an eleventh-round technical knockout over Jade Bornea this Sunday (Philippine time) at Armory in Minneapolis, USA.

The 28-year-old Bornea held his own in the early going and made his presence felt with his punches to the body. Typical Martinez, meanwhile, was relentless as ever throwing hard shots and got better of the exchanges as the bout went on.

Martinez's best rounds came in round 9 and 10 as he battered Bornea with multiple clean punches on top. Bornea came out of his corner ready to fight on in round 11, but the referee stepped in to stop the contest as the champion continued his unrelenting assault.

The win improved Martinez's perfect record to 16-0 with 9 knockouts while Bornea tasted his first defeat as a professional as he dropped to 18-1 with 12 knockouts.

On the undercard, former super flyweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas snapped his two-fight losing skid with a fifth-round technical knockout over Colombian journeyman Wilner Soto. He improved his record to 34-3-2 with 23 knockouts.
