John Riel Casimero lands at WBO No. 5 following win over Nghitumbwa

Former three-division champion John Riel Casimero is now ranked as the No. 5 super bantamweight in the world by the World Boxing Organization following his win over Fillipus Nghitumbwa last month in his homecoming fight here in Manila.

Casimero, 33-4 with 22 knockouts as a professional boxer, went the distance against a tougher-than-anticipated Nghitumbwa. In the end, the Filipino slugger emerged victorious via unanimous decision to claim the WBO global super bantamweight title.

A former world champion in the light flyweight, flyweight, and bantamweight division, the 34-year-old from Ormoc City inches closer to a possible world title shot in a fourth weight division.

The WBO world super bantamweight title is currently held by unified super bantamweight Stephen Fulton, who is scheduled to face Japanese pound-for-pound superstar Naoya Inoue on July 25 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
