Japanese promoter of Casimero fight pleased with first venture in PHL, wants to do more events in the future
Treasure Boxing Promotion CEO Masayuki Ito is pleased with how his first boxing event in the Philippines turned out this past weekend at Okada Manila in Paranaque.
The Japanese former world champion co-promoted the show with the son of the late Hall of Famer Gabriel "Flash" Elorde, Johnny Elorde, headlined by John Riel Casimero vs. Fillipus Nghitumbwa for the WBO global super bantamweight title.
Casimero won the contest via unanimous decision.
"We are not sure of the next venue but upon seeing the crowd and the fans in the Philippines, we want more shows here," Ito stated.
"There will be more co-promotion with Johnny Elorde Management International because they were very helpful and the venue is amazing."
Johnny Elorde, President of Johnny Elorde Management International, also told his desire to continue a working relationship with the Japanese promotion.
"I want to thank Masayuki Ito for giving us the opportunity to co-promote with him. He is good to be with in a promotion. If they will give us more co-promotions moving forward, we will do it," Elorde said.
The main event saw a twelve-round action between Casimero and Nghitumbwa which turned out to be a tougher bout than expected for the Filipino. Eager to do more events moving forward, Ito says he would try to get his ward a world title fight next.
"We will discuss the possibility of getting him (Casimero) a world title match and after that, there is the possibility of fighting Naoya Inoue," Ito stated.
"We want to focus on the next fight around September or October."
