Filipino boxer Vincent Astrolabio out for payback against Moloney in world title fight
World title contender Vincent Astrolabio will be out to avenge his fellow Filipinos when he takes on Jason Moloney for the vacant WBO world bantamweight title on May 13 at Stockton Arena in Stockton, California.
The MP Promotions fighter Astrolabio, 18-3 with 13 knockouts as a professional boxer, is coming off two highly impressive performances having beaten former world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux last year before stopping Nikolai Potapov in a title eliminator this past December.
“Astrolabio is coming off a tremendous training camp. He is in unbelievable shape thanks to Memo. He has underrated power and it is going to be payback to Moloney after he defeated all those Filipinos over the years,” MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons said.
Moloney (25-2, 19KOs) is a former world title challenger known to Filipino boxing fans for defeating several Pinoy pugs in the past. His latest victim was former world title challenger Aston Palicte, who he defeated by technical knockout in three rounds in June 2022.
The 26-year-old Astrolabio flew to the USA last March and has since hooked up with renowned strength and conditioning coach Memo Heredia, who was also responsible for whipping him to tip-top shape in his last fight.
Astrolabio’s trainer Nonoy Neri followed him to the USA after working the corner of former world champion Rene Cuarto last month in Japan.
