Eumir Marcial to skip SEA Games due to injury
Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial will skip the upcoming Southeast Asian Games due to an injury in his hand.
The boxer made the announcement on Monday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards, where he received a citation for his gold medal achievement from the 2021 edition of the biennial meet.
"Three months po ito (hand) magpapahinga so hindi po aabot sa SEA Games," Marcial said on Thursday.
("This will take three months to rest so this won't make it to the SEA Games.")
"Matagal na po itong injury so pina-surgery namin after ng match ko sa San Antonio, Texas. Minor problem lang naman siya, para lang sa mga next na mga laban ko, wala na akong maramdaman."
("This is a nagging injury so I underwent surgery after my last match in San Antonio, Texas. This is just a minor problem so that in my next fights, I won't feel pain.")
Marcial was referring to his last fight against Argentinean Ricardo Ruben Villalba where he won via technical knockout.
The Filipino boxer has been copping gold medals since the 2015 edition of the SEA Games. He now holds four gold medals from four editions of the biennial meet.
