Naoya Inoue stops Butler to become the first undisputed bantamweight champion in history
Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue became the first undisputed bantamweight champion in history following a technical knockout over Paul Butler this Tuesday evening at Ariake Arena in Koto-Ku, Japan.
Butler came out jabbing in the opening round while Inoue was calculated with his offense throwing hard shots on top. Inoue pressured his foe in round two, finally unleashing his trademark body shots and mixing them up with punches on top.
Inoue came out swinging in round three, throwing power shots as he trapped Butler to the corner. Butler, on the other hand, was passive throughout the fight seemingly afraid to throw a punch that could leave himself open.
Unwilling to engage, Butler rode his bike until he got caught with a barrage of punches in the final stretch of the bout. The punches sent him to the canvas which prompted the referee to halt the contest at the 1:09 mark of round eleven.
Inoue, now the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF bantamweight world champion, became the first Japanese in boxing history to unite all four titles from a major sanctioning body.
He improved his record to 24-0 with 21 knockouts while Butler fell to 34-3 with 15 knockouts.
