Jade Bornea assesses Martinez ahead of Ancajas rematch, says he would go for a knockout if they fight

Filipino contender Jade Bornea gave his assessment of IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez ahead of his upcoming rematch against Jerwin Ancajas on October 9 (PH time) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Martinez, 14-0 with 8 knockouts as a professional boxer, threw more than a thousand punches and battered Ancajas en route to stealing the world title last February. According to Bornea, the Argentinian former Olympian would be a handful for against anyone.

“He is not an easy opponent because he is always in front of you and is a volume puncher so you need to have strong resistance and conditioning,” Bornea told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

“You will fade if you are vulnerable. You cannot stand in front of him and go in and out. If you stay right in front of him, he would try even more punches.”

Bornea, currently ranked as the no.1 contender to the IBF world super flyweight title, would likely end up as the mandatory challenger to the winner of the Ancajas vs. Martinez rematch. And should Martinez prevail this weekend, Bornea says he will be ready to face the champion.

“I think a bout between us would be a really good fight if it happens. It is going to be action-packed because I would not let myself lose and I also want action. If there is a chance I would go for a knockout,” Bornea stated.
