Jerwin Ancajas in a critical fight with Martinez rematch – analyst
Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino believes that Jerwin Ancajas would be in a critical position when he takes on IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez in a rematch next weekend, October 8 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Ancajas, 33-2-2 with 22 knockouts as a pro, lost his world title to Martinez via unanimous decision this past February. According to Tolentino, the prizefighter from Panabo City would be the underdog in the upcoming bout seeing how he was battered during their first encounter.
“Ancajas is the underdog in because we saw what happened in the first fight. I have never seen Ancajas take so many punches. I really believe he should go up in weight. I think he is overstaying at 115 pounds he should have moved up earlier,” Tolentino told Sparring Sessions LIVE
“Before the [last] fight there were issues like cramping and we saw he can barely avoid punches. We want to see him in this upcoming rematch. This is very critical because in the last fight he came close to being stopped.”
The 30-year-old Ancajas had fought at the super flyweight division most of his career and was making the tenth defense of his strap when he lost to Martinez. For Tolentino, staying at the division had become a problem for the Filipino pug.
“Is the hunger still there? 115 pounds is really a problem. He is taking a huge risk in my opinion.”
