Canelo Alvarez dominates Golovkin in trilogy fight to retain super middleweight titles

Pound-for-pound superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez made a successful defense of his WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF world super middleweight titles following a unanimous decision nod over Gennady Golovkin in their much-anticipated trilogy fight this Sunday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Alvarez was aggressive in the early going throwing power punches to the head and body. Golovkin was seemingly calculating, often backing up while throwing punches here and there to keep Alvarez at bay.

Alvarez made Golovkin react to his every punch, often drawing Golovkin to open after a feint before he threw a power shot. In round three, Canelo stepped on the gas throwing clean punches on top that snapped Golovkin's head.

Alvarez made target practice out of Golovkin in round 4. Golovkin stuck to his jab while throwing left hooks here and there, but was not landing clean shots to keep Alvarez off of him. Golovkin barely threw a jab in round 6, allowing Alvarez to have a field day on punches landed on him.

Alvarez was scientific with his attack in the following rounds, not allowing Golovkin to land anything significant to change the course of the fight. Golovkin did not let his hands go until round 9, and when he did he managed to back Alvarez

Both fighters came out swinging in round 11 landing shots of their own. Alvarez pressed the action in the 12th and final round while Golovkin seemed content with making it to the final bell.

All three judges saw the fight for Alvarez after twelve rounds, improving his record to 58-2-2 with 39 knockouts while Golovkin fell to 42-2-1 with 37 knockouts. The scorecards were 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.
