Boxing analyst warns: Canelo vs. GGG III will not be as epic as first two
Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino does not see the third bout between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin living up to the hype.
The pair is scheduled to figure in their much-anticipated grudge match this Sunday (PH time), September 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It is a fight four years in the making, the first one being a draw with the last being in 2018 with Alvarez emerging the winner on points.
“I do not see this fight being as epic as the first two. This fight is coming in way too late,” Alvarez told Sparring Sessions LIVE.
“I think Golovkin would put up a fight in the early rounds but Alvarez's hits would be alarming as the fight drags on. The body shots of Alvarez, he will be applying liposuction to the mid-section of Golovkin. I think he [Golovkin] would crumple.”
According to Tolentino, he sees the 40-year-old Golovkin ultimately succumbing to the younger and in his prime Alvarez.
“The way I see it, it would be over in nine rounds with the referee having to save Golovkin for him to live and fight another day. That is the consensus in the boxing world. It is me against the world for Golovkin. He has a chance, yes, but by logical analysis, it is going to be Alvarez.”
