Jade Bornea could be a 'live underdog' against the winner of Ancajas vs Martinez rematch

Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino sees Jade Bornea as a possible "live underdog" against the winner of the upcoming rematch between Jerwin Ancajas and IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez on October 8 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Bornea, 18-0 with 12 knockouts as a professional boxer, is currently ranked as the number one super flyweight in the world by the IBF and is most likely to get a mandatory title shot against the victor of the Ancajas vs. Martinez II.

“He is unbeaten and number one ranked. He has an even chance though he might be an underdog against either Martinez or Ancajas, he is going to be a live underdog,” Tolentino told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

Bornea, 27, is coming off a stoppage over Mexican journeyman Ivan Meneses earlier this month. Though he previously expressed that he would rather not fight Ancajas for a world title, Tolentino believes that it may be time for Bornea to roll the dice should his fellow Filipino beat Martinez.

“The fact he reached the number one ranking only shows that he is qualified to fight for a world title. We all saw the kid, he can punch, has a good attack, but can get hit,” Tolentino stressed.
