Anthony Joshua explains bizarre walkout after losing Usyk rematch

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has explained his bizarre reaction following his loss against WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk this Sunday at Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua, 32, stormed out of the ring and then eventually returned after it was announced that Usyk emerged victorious in the rematch via split decision. He was also seen dropping the belts of Usyk and was heard questioning his foe on how he was beaten.

“It is really hard to say I’m proud of myself,” Joshua said during the post-fight press conference.

“I do not feel anything, I am upset deep down in my heart. I knew I was mad at myself, not anyone just at myself. I was mad. When you're angry you might do stupid things, but then I realized this is a sport. Let me do the ring thing.”

In the end, Joshua conceded that he did his best but it was simply not enough.

“In the last fight I wanted to compete and improve myself as a boxer but it was not good enough. Tonight was not good enough. I adapted and made the changes needed to give him a more competitive fight,” Joshua stressed.

“It was not enough but I left everything in the gym. If I left everything in the ring I would have won but I pushed in training camp to make sure the fight was more competitive tonight.”
