Veteran analyst sees Magsayo winning by KO against Vargas

Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino predicts a triumphant first title defense for WBC world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo against Rey Vargas this Sunday, July 10 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

“This is a 50-50 fight because Vargas is a good fighter too, an undefeated former world champion,” Tolentino told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

“I think Magsayo can pull through in this fight and there might be flash knockdowns early on. I see a lot of loopholes in Vargas. I think Magsayo is faster and stronger, he just has to stick to the game plan and have a lot of patience and exploit the weaknesses of Vargas.”

According to Tolentino, the conditioning of Magsayo (24-0, 16KOs) would play a vital role in getting a victory on fight night. Should he find success in pacing himself, the respected analyst believes the fight would not go the distance.

“I think this fight would not hear the final bell. I like Magsayo in this fight, and I think he can finish this fight in eight rounds,” Tolentino said.

“I just hope the conditioning of Magsayo holds up because he is going to take a lot of body shots from Vargas.”
