De La Hoya reveals desire to sell Golden Boy Promotions

Retired six-division champion Oscar De La Hoya is looking to sell Golden Boy Promotions.

De La Hoya, 49, founded the boxing promotion in 2002 after his moniker. He retired in 2008 after getting stopped by Manny Pacquiao ending his lucrative career with a record of 39-6 with 30 knockouts.

“I'm sitting on a billion-dollar company and I can't wait to get rid of it and most importantly, I can't wait to be the very first fighter ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a promoter as well. These are goals that I have,” De La Hoya told ESPN.

Some of the biggest names that Golden Boy Promotions produced were Mexican pound-for-pound superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, retired three-division champion Juan Manuel Marquez, and British fan favorite Ricky Hatton.

Until the De La Hoya gets to sell the company, the Mexican-American vowed to make the biggest fights there is to make in the sport of boxing.

“We're sitting on a gold mine. When I'm ready to get out, the time will come,” he said.

“But in the meantime, that's the reason I want to make these big fights happen. It's crucial. It's crucial for the sport. It's crucial for my company. It's crucial, most importantly, for the fan base.”
