Mark Magsayo pays courtesy call on Duterte; Vargas showdown added to PBC schedule
WBC world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo paid a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte at the Malacañang Palace shortly after winning his first world title.
The 26-year-old Magsayo, who holds a record of 24-0 with 16 knockouts, became a world champion last January when he defeated Gary Russell Jr. via majority decision.
Magsayo has repeatedly called out for a unification bout with the WBA world featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz but he currently is on a collision course with Mexican contender Rey Vargas.
Several reports said that Magsayo's camp is in advanced talks with the former super bantamweight champion.
While no official announcement has been made yet, the fight has already been listed in Premier Boxing Champion's schedule for July 9 at a yet-to-be-determined venue.
