Filipino boxer Jeo Santisima bows to Joet Gonzales in title fight
Filipino fighter Jeo Santisima suffered a huge setback in his fight against Joet Gonzalez for the vacant WBO international featherweight title following a stoppage loss earlier today at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno California, USA.
Santisima, 25, showcased his toughness throughout the fight as he pressed forward throwing hard shots to the head and body that saw both fighters exchange heavy leather in the first half of the bout.
The bout took a sour turn for Santisima in round 7 after he visibly got hurt from a barrage of punches from his foe. Gonzalez never took his foot off the pedal from there as he attacked in round 8 which prompted the referee to warn Santisima in his corner to fight back.
Gonzalez did the same the following stanza while Santisima’s punch output had depleted. Backed on the ropes, Gonzalez unleashed a clean overhand right that found its target prompting the referee to halt the contest at the 2:05 mark of round 9.
The win allowed Gonzalez to capture the vacant WBO title and improved his record to 25-2 with 15 knockouts. Santisima, meanwhile, dropped to 21-4 with 18 knockouts.
