Leo Santa Cruz a good, exciting fight for Mark Magsayo, says analyst
A unification bout between WBC world featherweight world champion Mark Magsayo and WBA world featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz has fireworks written all over it, said veteran boxing analyst Ed Tolentino.
Magsayo, 26, has repeatedly expressed his desire to face the Mexican slugger ever since he won the world title last January. Santa Cruz, meanwhile, recently said that he is willing to lock horns with the Filipino champion.
"I like this fight for Magsayo. Santa Cruz is a big name and their styles will bring excitement because it jives inside the ring. Santa Cruz's confidence is not that high and I think Magsayo is more comfortable at featherweight," said Tolentino.
"This is a good fight, Magsayo will be tested because Santa Cruz punches a lot like a machine gun but the Mexican is not heavy-handed. Magsayo hits harder but Santa Cruz throws more."
Besides the excitement that the fight will bring if it comes to fruition, Tolentino also said that a showdown with Santa Cruz could be the most lucrative bout that the Filipino can sign at the 126-pound division.
"This is a very good match if it can happen, financial and marketing-wise. I like Magsayo in this fight, it is going to be a war of attrition," Tolentino said.
"Magsayo can take Santa Cruz's punches but I think Santa Cruz can't take Magsayo's. Santa Cruz comes forward so he could end up being nailed."
