Jonas Sultan admits having some physical issues in win vs. Caraballo

Filipino boxer Jonas Sultan admitted experiencing some physical issues during his winning fight against Puerto Rico's Carlos Caraballo.

In an interview with Chino Trinidad on "24 Oras," Sultan said he would rate his performance against Caraballo at 8 out of 10.

"Eight lang, sir. Di kumpleto 'yung kuwan ko kasi may problema ako sa paa. Dapat 'yung galaw natin mabilis," Sultan said.

["Just 8. It was not that complete since I have issues in my foot. My moves should have been faster."]

He had athletic tape on his foot prior to the fight in the assumption that it would protect him. However, the tape affected the circulation of blood on his legs, which bothered Sultan since the start of the second round.

Aside from his foot, Caraballo said his wisdom tooth had been bothering him since he arrived in New York.

"Di na ako makatulog sa gabi kasi 'yung wisdom tooth ko, sumasakit. Maga siya ngayon," he said.

["I cannot sleep properly at night because my wisdom tooth is aching. It is inflamed."]

More than his physical issues, however, Sultan said Caraballo was really a good fighter. His desire to win was his main motivation in overcoming his Puerto Rican foe.

"Gusto ko manalo talaga. 'Yun ang nagpapanalo sa akin."

["I really want to win. That's what pushed me."]

Sultan defeated Caraballo via unanimous decision on Sunday to win the WBO Intercontinental bantamweight title.
