Nesthy Petecio gracious in defeat in Tokyo boxing finals: 'Tinanggap ko nang buo'
Nesthy Petecio is ready to move on.
The Filipina boxer asserted that she had already accepted her loss to hometown bet Sena Irie of Japan in the final round of the women's featherweight division Tuesday at the Kokugikan Arena.
"Tinanggap ko nang buo ['yung pagkatalo ko sa Olympic gold medal match]," Petecio said Tuesday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
The 29-year-old added that it has sunk into her that she is now an Olympic silver medalist.
"Malaking blessings na 'yun."
Petecio also shared that she had actually eyed for a bronze medal at first and that she did not expect to land with a silver medal on the most prestigious sports stage.
"Actually, bronze lang po hiningi ko pero binigyan ako ng silver. Grabe ang lakas ni Lord," she added.
In an interview with GMA News Online, Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) president Ricky Vargas said Petecio will now shift her focus to the 2024 Paris Olympics and the Vietnam SEA Games.
