Nesthy Petecio gears up for Vietnam SEA Games, 2024 Paris Olympics after silver medal finish in Tokyo
After a gallant stand in Tokyo, Nesthy Petecio will now set her sights to next big stages: the 2024 Paris Olympics and 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
According to Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) president Ricky Vargas, Petecio will bounce back stronger following a silver medal in the women's featherweight at the Tokyo Olympics.
"She still has the SEA Games and three years from now, I hope she still has another crack at Paris in the Olympics," Vargas told GMA News Online in an interview.
Vargas said he believes Petecio could someday clinch that gold medal in the Summer Games.
"She has a lot of potential and from what everyone saw from her performance here [in Tokyo], I know she's a gold medal material," he said.
Dates for the 2021 SEA Games have yet to be announced following its postponement last month.
Petecio is also expected to compete in the 2022 Asian Games, where she bowed out early in the 2018 edition.
