Donaire Sr. hopes Casimero would beat Rigondeaux, wants to see him fight Nonito Jr.
Nonito Donaire Sr. is hoping that WBO world bantamweight world champion John Riel Casimero would beat Guillermo Rigondeaux when they meet inside the ring on August 14 at the Dignity Heal Sports Park in California, USA.
Casimero, 32, was supposed to fight Nonito Donaire Jr. in a historic all-Filipino unification but the bout was called off by the latter after he felt "disrespected" with the pre-fight shenanigans of Team Casimero.
Donaire Sr. however remains hopeful that the showdown would eventually happen someday, citing the fight's significance for Philippine boxing history.
"I wish Casimero wins his next fight and also Nonito Jr. whoever he is fighting next. I want to see them fight," he said.
"Mexican versus Mexican they have been fighting for decades. What we want to see this time is a Filipino versus Filipino, let us see who is better. This is a big fight because it is a world championship fight. Whoever wins, it will be big for the Philippines," he added.
Should he get the fight that he is hopeful for, Donaire Sr. also hopes that there would be no more trash talking during the fight buildup.
"If this fight happens, like Manny Pacquiao said, no more trash talking. Let us show that we can have a good conversation like what they had in the Pacquiao-Spence press con," he said.
"You are in professional sports, show that you are professional so the next generation would respect you. You are called a professional because you are in a professional sport so the attitude must be professional as well."
