Donaire stands firm on cancellation of unification bout vs Casimero: 'I stand against misogynistic culture'

WBC world bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire on Wednesday maintained that his unification bout against WBO world bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero has been cancelled.

In a statement on Wednesday, Donaire said Casimero's camp turned in the papers for Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) test five days late, prompting him to cancel the fight.

"We have proof that the opposing side was neither honest nor forthcoming in providing the proper information to begin VADA drug testing. After we cancelled the fight, then and only then did the paperwork suddenly appear," Donaire said.

Casimero's camp previously said the fighter has already been enrolled in VADA testing.

Meanwhile, Donaire also opened up about what happened between his wife Rachel and one of the members of Casimero's camp.

He said he stands against bullying and the disrespect and abuse of women and children "physically, mentally, and emotionally."

"I stand against misogynistic culture. A grown man recently told the mother of my boys to 'snack on his ****.' We cannot ignore this unprofessional behavior," he said.

"We cannot excuse the disgusting trolling memes created of my wife as 'just for entertainment'. I don't want other pro athletes to cross this line and think this type of behavior is acceptable," he added.

Donaire said "respectable character" must be maintained online to set an example to future generations.

"For the boxing culture to change, promoters and networks should veer away from unacceptable behavior and not encourage it," he said.

"As much as I want to knock him out, I'm going to take the high road and instead of highlighting his misbehaviors, I'm not going to give his example the stage or the payday that comes with it," he added.

Donaire on Tuesday called out Casimero's camp in a Facebook live video on his wife's account, saying that they disrespected his family.

The unification bout is scheduled on August 14.
