Jake Paul opens up on Floyd Mayweather brawl
Youtuber Jake Paul did not anticipate former five-division boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather would get furious over a hat.
The 44-year-old Mayweather was in a presser earlier this month for his upcoming exhibition against Logan Paul on June 6, but it was between the ex-champ and Jake where things got heated after the younger Paul snatched the boxer’s hat during a face-off.
“It was sort of a sensory overload with everything that was going on. There were like eight guys around me all grabbing me, some hitting me in the leg. I’m holding onto his hat for dear life. I was like, no I’m not letting go!” Paul told Beyond The Fight podcast.
“And that was the main thing that they were like concerned about, like, give us the f*cking hat, give us the hat! And I was like, no!” he added.
“Then finally they got the hat and then I just see this angry Floyd Mayweather I couldn’t believe it. One of his security guards had my shirt wrapped around his hand so I couldn’t get away. He just comes running at me and he’s throwing punches over the security guard.”
Threats and punches were thrown during the brawl and Paul ended up with a black eye for pulling the stunt. According to Paul, things got so crazy that Mayweather accidentally punched his own security.
“I’m literally like, oh wow this is crazy,” Paul recalled.
“But the funny thing about it was like none of the punches were even coming close to me at that point and he actually punched his own security guard in the side of the head. Absurd moment, hilarious, I didn’t think he was gonna get that mad over a hat.”
The incident between Paul and Mayweather had spread like wildfire on both news and social media. He stressed that he was not there to pick a fight with the boxing legend but rather wanted to have a funny moment in the press con.
“Look, it’s show business. I didn’t think it was gonna go that viral,” Paul quipped.
“I thought it was gonna be like, this is funny Jake Paul is an immature little kid which by the way, that’s what I was going for. I was like, this is going to be hilarious, I’m going to be like a little kid stealing someone’s hat on the playground.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
