Pacquiao vs McGregor is off after Irish fighter's loss at UFC 257
The prospective showdown between boxing's only eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao and former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor is on hold following the latter's setback at UFC 257 last weekend.
McGregor, 32, suffered a second-round technical knockout loss at the hands of ex-UFC interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier. It was a huge blow to what seemed like a close to a done deal between the pair as Team Pacquiao is exploring their options now.
"Very unfortunate, it looked like Conor looked past Dustin and got knocked out. Maybe he had the Senator on his mind. I think the demand for the fight is not there presently," MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons told The Sun.
While there’s no definite winner of the Pacquiao sweepstakes just yet, recent reports came out that the Filipino's camp is in talks for a possible fight with the 22-year-old WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia.
As for McGregor, Gibbons believes that it will do him good to focus on his mixed martial arts career for now.
"Conor has some business to clean up and handle in the UFC. It's a bummer, it could have been fun for as long as it lasted and know leg kicks would have made a world of difference." —MGP, GMA News
