Mike Tyson tells why Evander Holyfield trilogy is yet to be made
Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson would want to run it back for a third time with retired heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.
The pair of legends in the heavyweight division share one of the most storied rivalries in boxing history. In 1996, Holyfield stunned Tyson when he defeated the latter by technical knockout to claim the WBA world heavyweight title.
They had a rematch seven months later where Tyson was disqualified after he bit a piece off Holyfield’s ear. Tyson revealed that he likes to lure the now 58-year-old Holyfield back in the ring but negotiations proved tough in the past.
“Maybe Evander needs to talk to me because every time my business associates talk to his business associates, it doesn’t turn out well,” Tyson said.
“So I don’t know. If you could see what we made tonight, if these guys really care about the welfare of Evander they would have had this fight with Evander. Maybe we’ll do another but whoever’s he’s with, who’s handling him is totally wrong.”
Tyson is coming off an eight-round exhibition with former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. this past weekend. The fight ended in an unofficial draw which would go to neither man’s record. Feeling good at 54 years old, Tyson promised to return to action again after the successful event. – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
