Pacquiao vs McGregor won’t be as big, says Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Jr. predicts that the much talked about showdown between eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao and former UFC featherweight and lightweight world champion Conor McGregor will not be as big without his involvement.

Mayweather came out of retirement in 2017 to face McGregor in a boxing match that saw him win the fight by way of 10th-round technical knockout. The event did extremely well on pay-per-view as it ended up as the second-highest selling PPV of all time, only next to Mayweather vs Pacquiao.

“I been walked. I’ve been walked away. I just came back for a quick bank robbery, a quick heist,” Mayweather told USA Today.

Three years later, the camps of Pacquiao and McGregor both confirmed that they were in negotiations to have the Irish MMA superstar return to the pro boxing arena for a second time. Though it immediately caught public interest, Mayweather says it would not be as big.

“He’s not going to get the money he got with me if he go with Pacquiao, it’s not going to be as big. You know, it gets no bigger than Floyd Mayweather,” said Mayweather.

Mayweather has previously teased a comeback on his social media the past few months. And while nothing is set in stone, he did confirm that he is currently in talks with UFC president Dana White for yet another collaboration.

“Me and Dana talk. I wouldn’t say always, but we’ll text and talk on the phone every once in a while,” he revealed.

“Dana’s a cool guy, he’s a great guy. And he’s doing a helluva job with the UFC and I’m proud of him. And we look forward to working with each other in the future. Are we going to work? Absolutely.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
