Olympic gold hopeful Eumir Marcial a 'gem,' says Roach

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach sees a promising career ahead for Olympic gold hopeful Eumir Marcial.

Marcial is currently in Los Angeles under the tutelage of Freddie Roach to further improve his skill set in preparation for his professional debut and the 2021 Olympics.

“Eumir hits really hard. He's a very slick southpaw,” Roach told Press Box PR.

“He's a pleasure to train. He has a good work ethic, he works his tail off, and he soaks in everything he is taught.”

Marcial bagged a silver medal at the 2019 AIBA world boxing championship and is a three-time gold medalist at the Southeast Asian Games.

Just recently, Marcial’s brother passed away but he decided to stay in the USA to continue his training. It is dedication like no other says Roach, stating that the Filipino is indeed a rare breed.

“Just a few days into camp, his brother passed away and he decided to stay in camp instead of going back to the Philippines for the funeral,” said Roach.

“I know he was hurting inside but that showed me his dedication to being the best. He wants to bring back Olympic gold and a world title belt back to the Philippines. He loves his country so much. He's a gem.” -- BAP, GMA News
