Mike Tyson on fighting again at 54: ‘Impossible is nothing’

Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson made headlines around the globe when he announced that he was coming out of retirement to face four-division champion Roy Jones Jr.

Tyson, 54, will fight for the first time since 2005 against the 51-year-old Jones in an eight-round exhibition match on the Triller app pay-per-view on November 28 in California.

Numerous fans, scribes, and athletes alike are not sold on the idea of Tyson fighting again given his age—even his children believe he should stay retired. But Tyson insists he knows exactly what he is doing.

“Sometimes I feel like I say, this is bulls—t, I can't be feeling this good,” Tyson said on The Joe Rogan Experience.

“I don't know, I really am, I'm feeling good. I know this bag of 200 pounds won't be moving like this if I'm not hitting it kind of decently.”

Talk of Tyson’s ring return started when he uploaded a training video on social media where showcased his vintage speed and power. He noticed his speed did not diminish on his first day back in the gym though he admits that his body went through a lot of pain when got back to working out.

“The speed that was on our first day. After that day I was in the bed, I couldn't walk I was crying to my wife, like wow,” he revealed.

“I don't know why after that I should have said this is over I'm not going to do it but this ego stuff.”

And for those who say that Tyson can no longer compete given his age, the once brash prizefighter had words of wisdom to share to his doubters.

“Listen, impossible is nothing to somebody that tries,” he stressed. “Everything that someone said was impossible has happened.” — BM, GMA News
