Australian boxing legend rips Jeff Horn’s coach: ‘He’s an idiot’
Retired three-division champion John Fenech took a swipe at Jeff Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton before the ex-champion’s next fight.
The Australian boxing legend most remembered for his trilogy with Azumah Nelson says the former WBO world welterweight champion Horn never receives clear instructions from his corner during fights.
“Jeff Horn’s going to get no instruction from his trainer, because he’s an idiot,” Fenech told Fox Sports.
“You can watch them all. He goes back to his corner, and whether he’s won a round or lost it, his trainer says he wins, which is pretty sad, because to think what he’s achieved on his own, it makes it even more special for Jeff Horn.”
Horn came into the spotlight after winning the WBO world welterweight title by defeating Manny Pacquiao via controversial unanimous decision three years ago in his hometown Australia.
His trainer Rushton, of course, was one of the few people who believed that Horn became a world champion fair and square.
Horn eventually lost the title to Terence Crawford in his second defense and is now slated to face unbeaten prospect Tim Tszyu this Wednesday at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville.
“Early on in the piece, I thought Tim could win this, because honestly I don’t think Jeff gets any instructions at all during his fights.”
And regardless of how bad Rushton is according to Fenech, he still predicted that Pacquiao’s old foe will triumph over Tszyu on fight night.
“I just don’t think Tim’s been hit by anybody the way Jeff Horn [hits],” he quipped.
“What Jeff Horn has to do is exactly what he did in the second [Michael] Zerafa fight. He’s got to go out, put pressure, and make a statement early.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
