Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones postponed to November —report
The highly-anticipated ring comeback of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been postponed to November 28, according to a report by The Ring.
The 54-year-old Tyson was originally scheduled to lock horns with four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition on September 12 at Dignity Health Park in Carson, California.
The bout will still air on pay-per-view with a price tag of $49.99 but the decision to postpone was made upon Tyson’s suggestion to maximize revenue. Both parties reportedly held a meeting and Jones approved of the business move.
Tyson last saw action inside the ring against Irish journeyman Kevin McBride in 2005, when he lost by way of sixth-round technical knockout.
Jones, meanwhile, last fought in February 2018 against Scott Sigmon at Civic Center in Pensacola where he emerged victorious via unanimous decision after 10 rounds of action.
Tyson’s decision to return to the ring has drawn mixed reactions from fans and fellow athletes alike. And as far as Tyson’s children are concerned, they would rather see their dad off the ring and enjoy his retirement. —MGP, GMA News
