Ex-world champ Ricardo Mayorga to enter rehab to battle drugs and alcohol addiction
Former welterweight and super welterweight world champion Ricardo Mayorga will be entered into a rehab to treat his drugs and alcohol addiction.
The ex-champ from Nicaragua stated so himself in a video publicly released by another former champion, Rosendo Alvarez, on Facebook.

"The objective is to get him away from drugs, away from his vices and away from bad company," Alvarez told EFE.
Alvarez, an ambassador of social works in the WBC, has already reached out to Mauricio Sulaiman, the sanctioning body’s president, to help Mayorga.
Mayorga was a polarizing figure back in his heydays. Having fought boxing legends like Felix Trinidad, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley, and Miguel Cotto, the Nicaraguan made millions of dollars throughout his career.
But just like many who’ve made it big in the sport, Mayorga was unable to properly manage the fame and wealth that came along with his stardom.
Earlier this year, a group of thugs had beaten up Mayorga that saw him sent to a hospital. He has also been seen walking around the streets of Managua looking like a homeless man who can barely articulate words during a conversation.
