Terence Crawford targets unification bout with Manny Pacquiao

Reigning WBO world welterweight champion Terence Crawford is raring to share the ring with WBA world welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Crawford, a three-division world champion from Top Rank, wanted to chase a unification bout against the Filipino boxing icon but the pandemic has slowed him down.

“Manny Pacquiao is the fight we’re still currently looking forward to getting, but the pandemic has messed up a lot of things as far as money issues and whatnot, fans not being able to actually come and see the fight,” Crawford told ESPN.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of sporting events on hold and some even suspended until next year. Just like the rest of the world, some in the combat sports scene is slowly trying to get back to its feet by putting up audience-free events.

Given the current situation, and since Pacquiao himself said he would not step in the ring again until the pandemic is over, Crawford says he would gladly fight any of the top names in the 147-pound division.

“I really don’t know how (the situation will play out for a fight) against any top welterweight in the division,” he said.

“When you look at the landscape, the whole thing is gonna come down to money, and if you can’t provide the proper money for each fighter, how can you make a fight happen? At the end of the day we all have to fight each other, and I’m willing to fight everybody.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
