Boxing legend Roberto Duran discharged from hospital, knocks out COVID-19
Boxing legend Roberto Duran has added another sensational victory to his resume after winning his fight against COVID-19.
In a video posted online, the 69-year-old Hall of Famer was escorted out of the hospital on a wheelchair as he drew cheers and applause from his doctors and nurses.
“Today, with God's favor, I returned home after battling the COVID-19 virus,” Duran wrote on his social media.
“It was a world title fight I was able to win with the support, love and dedication of a medical team, who not only took care of me but of all the patients, who, like me, fought in the hospital against this virus who does not know of legends, world titles, social status, race, religion, etc…”
According to his son Robin, Duran most likely acquired the virus when he interacted with well-wishers on his 69th birthday. The news of Duran getting infected by the virus prompted an outpour of support from celebrities, athletes, and fans alike.
Now that he’s been discharged from the hospital, the retired four-division world champion expressed his gratitude for all the love and reminded people to stay at home.
“To all the people who are still in the fight, I send lots of strength and my prayers to your families so that they do not lose hope and that they know that God is always in control,” he said.
“To all my fans around the world, I thank you for praying for me and for all your messages of encouragement. I will never tire of thanking all the doctors, nurses, who give their best every day, regardless of the risk they take,” he added.
“I love you all. Please stay home, continue with the quarantine, and under no circumstances, allow people to enter your house.” – RC, GMA News
