The 19-year-old Japanese fighter pulled off the upset against the no. 1 seed after winning via split decision.

The Southeast Asian Games gold medalist will get another crack at the Olympics in the World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Paris, France in May.

Earlier, Eumir Marcial punched his ticket to Tokyo after advancing to the semifinals in the men's middleweight division.
