Marcial, Petecio, Suarez cap off SEA Games gold rush for PHL boxing
Veterans Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, and Charly Suarez capped a victorious night for Filipino boxers on Monday as they ended the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games ring competitions with a total of seven gold medals.
Marcial scored a first round technical knockout against Vietnam's Nguyen Manh Cuong in the men's middleweight finals.
In the women's featherweight finals, world champion Petecio also bagged a gold as she won via unanimous decision against Myanmar's Oo Nwe Ni.

Suarez, a 2016 Olympian, dominated Thailand's Pidnuch Khunatip in the men's lightweight division with a unanimous decision to cop the top prize.
Earlier in the day, James Palicte reigned supreme in the men's light welterweight division finals after winning also via a unanimous decision against Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam.
Carlo Paalam, Rogen Ladon, and Josie Gabuco previously won gold medals in their respective weight classes, summing up a total of seven gold medals for Philippine boxing.
In the men's welterweight finals, the judges sided on Thailand's Masuk Wuttichai, handing Pinoy boxer Marjon Piañar a silver medal. Riza Pasuit, on the other hand, was overwhelmed by Thailand's Seesondee Sudaporn in the women's lightweight finals for another silver finish. Irish Magno also bagged a silver medal in the women's flyweight division.
