IN PHOTOS: Pinoy fighters open SEA Games campaign on perfect note

The Philippine national boxing team swept their assignments in the opening round of the SEA Games boxing competition on Wednesday.

Josie Gabuco defeated Thailand's Chuthailan Raksat via split decision, 4-1, in the women's light flyweight 48kg category. Aira Villegas followed it up with a unanimous victory over Laos' Vilay Vongphachan, 5-0, in the women's bantamweight 54kg event.

In the men's division, Carlo Paalam said goodbye to his foe in the men's light flyweight 46-49kg category. He dominated Laos' Khamp Khamsathone, 5-0.

Irish Magno completed the sweep for the Philippines as she dispatched Singapore's Leona Hui, 5-0, in the women's flyweight 51kg event.

Several more boxers are set to see action, including world champions Eumir Marcial and Nesthy Petecio. —JST, GMA News
