Pacquiao springs back to training for his fight in January

After throwing a lavish 40th birthday party, Filipino boxing superstar and Senator Manny Pacquiao last Wednesday sprang back to training for his fight next month against American boxer Adrien “The Problem” Broner.

He grappled his two sparring opponents in an eight-round showdown in General Santos City, proving that he is still the same ruthless and strong fighter who defies the wear and tear of aging.

He turned 40 last December 17, but he cornered in the ropes his sparring partners George Kambosos Jr. and Jheritz Chavez several times, "Unang Balita" reported Thursday.

His trainer said the 8-division Pinoy boxing icon is being honed for counter-punching, the report said, adding that Pacquiao's "snap" is still unfading.

Pacquiao also had a punch-mitts session with coach Buboy Fernandez after his sparring.

Two of Pacquiao's sons Jimuel and Bobby were present at the day's training to show support for their father's continued boxing profession.

Earlier, Pacquiao said he is "stronger and faster" than ever.  "I feel stronger and faster, and by God's grace I am wiser at 40, feeling 25," Pacquiao said, making clear he's looking forward to facing Broner next month. —LBG, GMA News
